The communities of Monument, Palmer Lake and Woodmoor are characterized by a rural lifestyle and generally feature larger tracts of land.
Popular neighborhoods include Higby, Bent Tree, Jackson Creek and King’s Deer, among others.
King’s Deer, located just east of Monument and Interstate 25, is a newer community built around the world-class King’s Deer golf course. This 1,800-acre development features lots starting around $200,000 with custom completed homes from $500,000 and up.
Other growing, high-end communities include Woodmoor, built around the luxurious Woodmoor Country Club, Bent Tree to the east and Shiloh Pines, situated to the west bordering Pike National Forest.
There are also many rustic homes, horse properties and a variety of other developments including new and older homes in Palmer Lake, Wakonda Hills, Red Rock Ranch and Arrowwood.
The Lewis-Palmer School District 38 serves Northern El Paso County including the Palmer Lake, Woodmoor and Black Forest areas and all the homes for sale in Monument, CO.
The district, featuring two high schools, a middle school, six elementary schools and a number of charter facilities, is noted as one of the best in the Colorado Springs area and has recently outscored neighboring districts in its standardized testing results.
There are also a pair of parochial schools in St. Peter’s Catholic School and Life Academy, an alternative Christian school that looks to provide quality education, build moral character, and enhance self-esteem for students struggling with academics, motivation, or discipline issues.
Another alternative educational facility is Colorado Timberline Academy, located just south of Palmer Lake. This non-traditional, co-ed, boarding/day school is dedicated to changing the lives of students who have experienced difficulties in a previous high school setting.
There are a number of doctors and health care facilities in the Tri-Lakes area to handle a variety of needs from dentistry, family practice and urgent care to physical therapy, chiropractic and alternative medicine techniques.
The nearest hospitals to the south are the U.S. Air Force Academy Hospital and Briargate’s Memorial Hospital North in Colorado Springs and to the north Castle Rock (roughly 30 mins.) and Denver (45 mins to 1 hr.) offer a variety of additional medical care options.
As one might expect from the name, there are three spots in the Tri-Lakes area which provide a variety of eating options.
In Monument, you’ll find the simple old-school appeal of spots like Village Inn and Rosie’s Diner, with a double dose of Asian cuisine at Jasmine Garden and Columbine Gardens and some reasonably-priced Mexican food and margaritas at La Casa Fiesta.
Though small in size, the town of Palmer Lake — located off of Colorado Route 105 northwest of Monument — is big on local flavor with options such as Speed Trap Coffee Bar, Sara’s Sausage, B&E Filling Station, Bella Panini and O’Malley’s Irish Pub.
South of Monument, the Monument Marketplace shopping center, you’ll find a variety of chains such as Chili’s, Texas Roadhouse and Cold Stone Creamery as well as Carlos Miguel’s Mexican Bar & Grill.
From hiking up Mount Herman to horseback ridining, playing golf and jogging and biking along the New Santa Fe Trail, there are a bevy of outdoor activities available in the Tri-Lakes area.
Green spaces in the area include Limbach Park, For Run Regional Park and the memorably-named Dirty Woman Creek Park, Monument's largest park named after a pioneer woman who lived in an unkempt shack along the creek.
The 14-mile New Santa Fe Trail begins in Palmer Lake and spans south through Monument and through the Air Force Academy Grounds before connecting to the Pikes Peak Greenway on its way into Colorado Springs proper.
Just south of Monument, is the newest and largest climbing facility in the Colorado Springs area, CityRock. Here, seasoned rock climbers and novices alike can experience indoor and outdoor climbing activities, instruction and training by purchasing a day pass (about $15 per person) or monthly membership.
Nearby, the Colorado Sports and Events Center calls itself “Southern Colorado's premier facility for sports and entertainment.” The complex plays home to various recreational leagues and activities and features both an NHL-sized ice rink and a large turf field.
The Tri-Lakes area is home to places of worship and churches covering many denominations. From quaint rural chapels and facilities like Palmer Lake’s Little Log Church, to larger congregations at non-denominational community churches there’s likely a place of worship to suit your needs.
One of the area’s most unique religious groups is Benet Hill Monastery, an all-female community in the diocese of Colorado Springs. This contemporary Benedictine Monastic presence provides a sacred space for education, spirituality, and ministry for all God’s people, especially women.
In addition to the homes for sale in Monument, CO, there’s plenty of things to buy in the Tri-Lakes area.
Historic downtown Monument has a quaint, small-town feel, however you’ll find a number of locally-owned businesses, artisans and gift shops including Retrospect Dry Goods, Frog On a Limb Primitives, The Bead Corner and Covered Treasures Bookstore. These and the other charming shops in the area come alive each summer as the town hosts a series of “Art Hop” events with gallery openings, live music, food and more.
South of Monument off of Jackson Creek Parkyway, is Monument Marketplace an 88-acre 641,000 square foot retail center featuring a number of shopping, dining, banking and other retail shops with chains such as Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Home Depot, Petsmart, Cold Stone Creamery, Texas Roadhouse and many more.
